Artist statement / Film Synopsis

 

Liping Zhang often combine various materials to best accommodates the subject matter, content, and purposes of her art work. To enhance the expression of her works. Aiming for developing better communication with the audience. Liping started to challenge documentary, a new field. Liping tend to use flexible lens to get close with the audience naturally.The intention of her art work is to convey the true state of human and nature. To create an immersive experience for the audience. Leaves the audience ample space for thinking and imagination.

Liping Zhang creates installations that stage re-imagined cultural events.

 

In this new work (WANSHAN) she explores personal family traditions through the more intimate lens of the documentary portrait. With a clear commitment to close and patient observation, the film draws back a curtain on a world now in decline in rural China, as Liping celebrates the daily life of her Grandmother, Erying, giving audiences an insight into the essence of a simple yet highly memorable existence in changing times.

 

Charged with humour, a keen sense of Erying’s indomitable spirit and love of the natural world, this film urges us to slow down, think about our choices and value every moment we are alive.
